Hi, we have booked our trip and unfortunately they will be doing maintenance on the train line and cable car that week. Is it still worthwhile to visit Kuranda by bus?

Lots to do but getting there and leaving is part of the experience. If this is a one off trip go. If you can wait, wait.

Yes you can do the train both ways.That is how I used the train to Kuranda and it can give you an extra opportunity to get photo's if you missed out on the first train ride.
Hi Is there anything much to see by train from Cairns to Freshwater? We will have a rental car when we are doing our first trip to Cairns at Christmas and was wondering if things only become scenic from Freshwater onwards or whether it would be advantageous to leave from Cairns station? Sorry, I have had a bit of a look but cannot see anything about it. We will be in Cairns for 14 days. Thank you

There is not a lot to see between Cairns and Freshwater, You must decide where the the most convenient place is to catch the train will be.

Did you do a pre-booked day tour, or book this independently, i.e. book a oneway rail ticket, and then when in Kuranda book a one way cable back? and do they start and end at the same place? and any idea of cost doing it that way rather than a prebooked tour. What do you recommend?

I did a prebook as that was the easiest for me as i got picked up from my hotel. You can just go and get a ticket, not sure off cost, and it's quite a way out off town.
