Galt is a city in Sacramento County, California, United States. It is part of the Sacramento metropolitan area. The population was 23,647 at the 2010 census, up from 19,472 at the 2000 census. Galt was founded in 1869 by the Central Pacific Railroad as part of the first transcontinental railroad. The town is named after Galt, Ontario, the Canadian home town of local rancher John McFarland.
