No I think you have to buy them in the museum, I was not able to purchase in advance. There were no lines when we were there in July.

Not sure I will hit all the bases for the questions but here are a few comments-first I was astounded there were so few visitors on the days we were there, considering that is is the storehouse for works that exemplify the high period of Venetian art-the collection is just stunning-we wandered leisurely from room to room, also surprising how "in your face" the works are-surprising when you consider that on an average day, over 50,000 tourists are in Venice-one caution-guide books usually tell you the major works are in Rooms X-XII-not so now-they major works, like G. Bellini, Tintoretto, Canaletto,Carpacio,the Tiepolos, etc are scattered throughout several rooms due to construction, and of course you can ask guides help- though not all speak English guides will help you find works in which you have a special interest. I agree with comments about the Vitruvian Man-it is not always on display-if you are in one the classier hotels that have concierge, they could call the museum for you. Getting to the museum is a cinch-it is on the GRAND CANAL, and in fact is a regular stop on vaparatto route # 1, about 3-4 stops from San Marco stop. We were there on June 8th, Friday-there was only one tour group-local high school kids--what a contrast to museums in Paris, Florence and Rome. As to buying the tickets ahead of time, like via the net-we arrived at 10:30 and walked right in-unfortunately, we bought our tickets on the net, and took pains to be sure we were not ordering tickets for the museum of the same name in Florence, our tickets were rejected so we had to pay-also beware of buying vaparatto multi day passes-the paper work we had was rejected and we still had top pay.
