A boat tour around Kampong Ayer typically lasts 40 minutes to an hour, and gives you a pretty neat glimpse into the lives of people residing in these water villages. To truly appreciate Kampong Aye…Full review by somewherelands

We enjoyed our time seeing a different way of life. Stilted homes and several supporting amenities like a school etc. Venice of the East is perhaps a little far fetched but appreciated that the water…Full review by JeniseL_12

Greetings! You can book a tour online or simply show up where there are several boats available to take you around the village. I agree that you need to negotiate the price. Enjoy!

If you want a tour of Kampong Ayer, just head to the shopping centre in the centre, go to the back exit, cross the road and flag down a boat on the stairs that lead to the river to the right of the building where Kaizen Sushi is. The boat can take you across to Kampong Ayer for $1 and from there you can just wander around (the best way is to just get lost on all the passageways and when you have had enough just flag another boat to take you back. There are plenty). Otherwise negotiate with the boat driver a tour (1 hr is plenty of time to see it as well as the island upriver). Best time to do it is just before sunset.

Muara Port is too far from the Water Village. I suggest you get a taxi. Once there just stand close to the water area and some of the boat drivers will see you. Don't worry, they'll spot you. They need to earn $$$. I paid $10 for a trip around the village but you can negotiate with him. If this is your first time it is going to be an amazing experience like a roller coaster ride... but without seat belt. How scary is that?!

It would be safer to go first to your hotel and ask that they keep your luggage in their office/storage area if it is still too early to check in. Usually there is no extra charge for leaving your bags prior to check in. This way you also don't have to be rushing to get back to your hotel and start doing sight seeing the whole day :) We just made our own tour, you can even contact private cars/taxi for going around (cheaper) and taxis are harder to get since most people have at least 1 car. We were able to get Hadji who even acted as our interpreter and photgrapher :) You might want to give him a call when you're already there 8806806
