Employees of diversity, equity and inclusion programs are to be placed on administrative leave by 5 p.m. Wednesday. Agencies were told to make plans for layoffs.

A memo sent out by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management outlined steps to begin these changes: layoffs, dismantling websites and social media accounts.

By close of business Wednesday, every single diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) office within the federal government will shut down; email accounts will be suspended.
