The Hollywood studio will give the tech company access to its library of movies and shows in exchange for a custom-built AI model.

“Several of our filmmakers are already excited about its potential applications to their pre-production and post-production process,” Lionsgate Vice Chair Michael Burns said in a statement with the announcement. “We view AI as a great tool for augmenting, enhancing and supplementing our current operations.”

AI video has been advancing at a rapid rate, but there are still significant hurdles, both in terms of the tech and ethical and legal aspects. That means that major studios have largely avoided significant use of AI video generation so far,
