Storms have overwhelmed the state in recent years. On top of the floods, snow is expected soon. Sheets of rain drenched Kentucky in recent days, causing floods that turned roads and neighborhoods into rivers in a part of the country that has been pummeled by severe weather in recent years.

Multiple days of rain last week, followed by constant heavy rain on February 15, resulted in severe flooding and at least 8 deaths in Kentucky.

Emergency crews have had to rescue more than 1,000 people in response to the flooding, and nearly 40,000 are still without power.

President Donald Trump approved the state’s request for a disaster declaration, authorizing the Federal Emergency Management Agency to coordinate relief efforts throughout the state.
