Minneapolis officials reached an agreement with the Department of Justice to make sweeping reforms to address discriminatory policing. The Minneapolis City Council voted 12-0 in favor of the consent decree in a closed-door session after discussing it for nearly seven hours on Monday.

Minneapolis' City Council voted on Monday to agree to systemic reforms to its police department and to submit the department to outside oversight after a U.S. federal investigation spurred by the 2020 murder of George Floyd uncovered a pattern of civil rights abuses.
