Kathy Hochul said she would not remove New York City Mayor Eric Adams, but plans to pursue legislation that will limit his authority as leader of the largest city in the U.S.Hochul is seeking to curb the mayor’s power after the U.

Experts say it’s far from clear how would play out. The closest it’s come to happening was nearly a century ago when Gov. Franklin D. Roosevelt launched a trial against Mayor Jimmy Walker, who subsequently resigned and moved to Europe to avoid criminal prosecution.

Adams faces allegations he sought to help implement Trump's immigration policies in exchange for having his federal corruption charges dropped.
