Connecticut warming centers were funded by COVID-19 relief dollars, which are set to expire. Shelter organizers are worried about how they will keep their doors open.

Shelters will be open across the Lowcountry this week as cold temperatures settle into the area. The shelters will provide a warm place to sleep for those without adequate heat, or who may be experiencing homelessness.

Due to the cold temperatures outside, the city of Dayton has opened warming shelters. From 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Jan. 6 to 10, and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Jan. 11, the following warming shelters will be open for anyone seeking to get out of the cold:

The Tennessee Emergency Management Agency has opened warming shelters across the Midstate amid cold temperatures.

The city only opens warming centers when temperatures dip to 24 degrees for at least two hours. Instead, the Mayor’s Office of Public Safety and Homeland has been coordinating with private facilities.

Though the City of Houston declined to open warming centers during this week's cold snap, several nonprofits are offering resources for Houstonians in need.
