1 Maccabees is one of the deuterocanonical books ... in the part alotted to Seleucus and his heirs. Generations later, Antiochus IV Epiphanes rules the Seleucid Empire 175-164 BC.

Sources such as the Book of Daniel, 1 and 2 Maccabees, and Josephus report that in 167 BCE an edict was issued by Antiochus IV which suspended the worship or practice of native beliefs.
