In "History of the First Regiment, Delaware Volunteers," William P. Seville recalled what happened when the flags were seen at Chancellorsville in May 1863.

The state flag has been returned and is the focus of an exhibition through Dec. 18 at the society museum at 504 N. Market St., Wilmington. The U.S. flag is due back next year.
