CV axles use an inner and outer joint connecting the CV stubs to the shaft that is sealed with rubber boots. The joints are typically not serviced like a u-joint, but the boots are often replaced.

A half shaft is essentially a drive axle ... maintenance for these systems is to maintain the integrity of the CV joint boots, which are rubber sleeves around the constant velocity joints.
