Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee said he's all for president-elect Donald Trump's proposed plan to shut down the U.S. Department of Education (DOE).

Lee called it “a great idea” to dismantle the agency, which was created under a 1979 federal law during President Jimmy Carter’s administration.

I say it all the time, I’m dying to get back to do this. We will ultimately eliminate the federal Department of Education,” Trump said in September during a rally in Wisconsin.

The governor feels that the state can create a better spending strategy and handle unique student challenges better than the ED.
