Singapore’s parliament has been dissolved to pave the way for general elections in which the city-state’s long-ruling party will seek to strengthen its dominance under Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.

Singaporeans will need to vote for a new parliament after the nation's president Tharman Shanmugaratnam dissolved it Tuesday.

Singapore will hold a national election on May 3, the election commission said on Tuesday, amid worries about the cost of living and fears of a recession as a result of U.S. tariffs.
