CMT is among the Paramount divisions hit with extensive layoffs in 2024. Meanwhile, cable networks like Nickelodeon and MTV are reportedly not priorities for Skydance. Amid the company’s competitors shedding or restructuring cable networks, it’s possible those brands will be dropped from the Paramount portfolio altogether.

MTV EMAs, the CMT Music Awards, and several other awards shows were put on hold for 2025 as Paramount Global prepares for a major merger.

"We look to reimagine and optimize our events slate going forward," reads a staff memo obtained by THR. "Our world-class events remain a key component of Paramount's music offering."

Paramount has paused the CMT Music Awards, the MTV EMAs and more 2025 events, according to a memo from the company's Bruce Gillmer.

The CMT Music Awards will no longer take place in 2025. That show and others will pause this year as parent company Paramount Global merges with David Ellison’s Skydance Media. The Hollywood Reporter recently obtained a memo from Paramount president Bruce Gillmer.
