A program that would have given a one-time $375 payment to thousands of Nassau County residents struggling through the COVID-19 pandemic is now coming to an end.
Nassau officials this week said 43,000 payments have been sent to residents and 20,000 more applications have been filed as part of County Executive Laura Curran's Household Assistance Program.
Nassau County Homeowner Assistance Program or "HAP" provides direct payments to as many as 400,000 homeowners. Most households with an income below $168,900 are automatically eligible.
