OpenAI has canceled the release of its latest major artificial intelligence model, o3, in favor of a "simplified" comprehensive GPT-5 model, it said Wednesday.

Its announcement comes at a time when companies in the U.S. are facing greater investor scrutiny over their massive spending on the technology.
