The oldest living survivor of the Pearl Harbor attacks died Christmas morning. Warren “Red” Upton, of San Jose, Calif., was also the last living survivor of the USS Utah, which sank during Japanese attacks on the U.

There were an estimated 87,000 military personnel on Oahu on the day of the attack, according to military historian J. Michael Wenger. After Upton’s death, there are only 15 still alive.

Robert “Bob” Louie Fernandez, just a teen on Dec. 7, 1941, died at 100 in Lodi. He is remembered for his Pearl Harbor service and contagious personality.
