Rat lungworm is a parasite with a development that cycles between snails and rats. Humans can become infected when they ingest (accidentally or intentionally) a raw or undercooked snail.

Those gastropods could then be consumed by humans, either on purpose or by accidentally eating food or water that has been contaminated with slime. Rat lungworm cannot be transmitted human-to-human.
