One local council has employed the wriggly, worm-like creatures and their insatiable hunger as part of a push for sustainable waste solutions.

Sydney will become the first place in NSW to trial using maggots to combat food waste accumulating at landfills, getting the creatures to turn scraps into crucial ingredients for food production.
