Anyone with a tree stump in their garden has been issued an urgent warning to avoid robbing their garden of essential nutrients. The message to those with a tree stump is - do not touch it.

This would probably be illegal and might well kill whatever was living on the rotting tree stump, though. Better to have decomposing wood in a garden. If you have a dying tree, let it die.
