Microsoft ports DeepSeek’s AI to Copilot+ PCs, and their NPUs
Microsoft is allowing Copilot+ PC users to test out the sexy new AI model from DeepSeek -- and on the NPU, no less.
Microsoft’s new Surface for Business PCs have AI firmly at the core
Alongside this, the device features a powerful NPU that Microsoft says makes it the ideal workplace AI companion, powering tools and functions such as the new Windows “Descriptive Search” function across local and OneDrive files, Click to Do, and Microsoft Teams upgrades such as “Super Resolution” and live captions in more than 40 languages.
Microsoft just announced that it's bringing DeepSeek R1 models to Windows 11 Copilot+ PCs
In the announcement, Microsoft states DeepSeek R1 models will be coming to Qualcomm Snapdragon X-equipped PCs first, followed by computers with Intel Core Ultra 200V (Lunar Lake) CPUs and more down the line. Distilled DeepSeek R1 7B and 14B variants will be available via AI Toolkit, and it aims to take "full advantage" of Copilot+ PC NPUs.
