Lubbock and much of the South Plains are under a winter weather advisory through 6 a.m. Friday, with additional snow accumulations of an inch or less and winds gusting as high as 40 mph expected, according to the National Weather Service in Lubbock.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - School closings are mounting up in the Volunteer State ahead of Friday’s winter storm. Below is an outlook of the First Alert Weather Day with travel impacts and more.

Wichita Falls ISD and other school districts have announced closings or delayed start times for Friday. Note that districts often change their original plans on short notice due to weather concerns. Chillicothe ISD: Two hour delayed start. Electra ISD: Two hour delayed start. Iowa Park ISD: Two hour delayed start.

: As of 10:45 a.m., 50 districts have now closed. Only seven districts stayed with a two-hour delay. EARLIER: Some schools made announcements about Thursday morning delays as early as Wednesday evening due to the weather.

"All Austin ISD schools and offices will operate on normal schedules Thursday, Jan. 9, but due to rain and cold temperatures, all afterschool outdoor athletic activities will be canceled and any other outdoor activities will move indoors," Austin ISD wrote on Facebook.

Some schools in the DMV are closing their doors for the fourth day in a row, allowing students to keep sledding down the hills after a snowstorm hit the area Monday. These schools have announced closures for Thursday.
