Jeremy Swayman will not play in Thursday's game against the Ottawa Senators due to an upper-body injury suffered the day before.

Fans reacted as the Boston Bruins suffered a disappointing 7-3 loss to the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday night. The loss dropped the Bruins' record to 25-21-6 on the season.

After a hard-fought 2-0 win against the Ottawa Senators on Jan. 23, the Boston Bruins returned to practice on Jan. 24. Bruins star goalie Jeremy Swayman participated in practice after not dressing against the Senators due to an injury.

And it won’t stop any time soon. Swayman will be leading Boston through a fight to even get into the playoffs, a rare situation for a perennial contender. He will also be playing for the United States against Canada, Sweden and Finland in the 4 Nations Face-Off in Montreal and Boston from Feb. 12-20.

After putting together a strong showing at home last week, the Bruins snuffed out all of them momentum with an ugly loss to Buffalo.

If the Bruins are going to hang on to a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, Jeremy Swayman will be the reason why.

Tage Thompson and JJ Peterka each recorded a hat trick and an assist to lead the Buffalo Sabres to a 7-2 win over the visiting Boston Bruins on Tuesday night.

BUFFALO -- Tage Thompson and JJ Peterka each scored a hat trick and had an assist for the Buffalo Sabres in a 7-2 win against the Boston Bruins at KeyBank Center on Tuesday. Thompson got his 7th NHL hat trick, Peterka his first.

With three goals and one assist apiece, Thompson and Peterka led the Buffalo Sabres to a 7-2 thrashing of the Boston Bruins. Fittingly, Buffalo’s most recent two-hat trick game had come against the Atlanta Thrashers on Jan. 18, 2008, courtesy of Derek Roy and Drew Stafford.

Buffalo got two hat tricks for the first time since 2008 as Tage Thompson and JJ Peterka both had three goals and four points. Jiri Kulich had an assist to give the line six goals and three assists for nine points.
