The city of Salem agreed to pay $850,000 to the family of a 23-year-old man who was fatally shot by police in 2021 just as the family’s wrongful death and excessive force lawsuit was to go to trial Monday. The negotiated settlement must still go before the Salem City Council for final approval and before probate court.

Dwight Tyrome Glenn, 33, is charged with discharging a firearm within city limits, being armed to the terror of citizens and possession of a firearm by a felon, Winston-Salem police said. Glenn is being held in the Forsyth County Jail with his bond set at $10,000, police said.
