Texas’ move to the Southeastern Conference has rekindled an old rivalry once so intense that national championships hung in the balance and a U.S. president made a special trip to attend. The Texas-Arkansas border clash is a feud that in its heyday was as big as any in the country.

According to Arkansas, the school adopted its nickname after football coach Hugo Bezdek referred to his players as a "wild band of Razorback hogs" after beating LSU in 1909. Arkansas athletic teams were originally called the Cardinals.

Former Southwest Conference foes Texas and Arkansas have been playing football before the SEC existed. Now, they meet as members of that conference.
