George R.R. Martin has a new update on The Winds of Winter, but it doesn't sound like the next book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series is coming anytime soon.

George R.R Martin is undoubtedly best known for his work on Game of Thrones and the ongoing A Song of Ice and Fire book series that inspired the fantasy drama, but both he and Academy Award winner Robert Redford are also among the executive producers of AMC's Dark Winds.

Martin made a surprise cameo in the TV show Dark Winds, with an apparent dig at his long-delayed new novel, The Winds of Winter. The scene is in the season 3 premiere, and he’s not the only famous face involved.

The last book in George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series, A Dance With Dragons, came out in 2011. That's also the year that HBO debuted Game of Thrones, its TV series based on Martin's work.
