Repairs at Eskom’s Majuba power station in Mpumalanga have placed the country closer to the suspension of load shedding.

Eskom has reduced load shedding from stage four to stage two, following the successful restoration of several power generation units. According to the power utility, this improvement comes after all five units at Majuba, two units at Camden, and one unit at Medupi were brought back online.

The country was hit with stage 6 on Sunday morning following the failure of multiple units at some of Eskom's power stations.

Eskom has downgraded load shedding from Stage 4 to Stage 2 from Tuesday. "This decision follows the successful recovery of eight out of ten generation units and the restoration of 3 808MW from units that tripped over the weekend,

Eskom has ramped up load shedding to stage 6 until further notice due to multiple unit trips at the Camden Power Station in Mpumalanga. The parastatal’s spokesperson, Daphne Mokwena, made the announcement in the early hours of Sunday morning, Mokwena said stage 6 load shedding was implemented at 1:30 a.m. and will continue until further notice.

While addressing the media in Pretoria on Sunday, Eskom CEO Dan Marokane stated that recovery plans were well underway, with numerous units already back on the grid.

The electricity utility lost 10 generating units at the weekend but has said it is making good progress in restoring them to service.
