Steady and secure oil imports from Canada have helped turn the U.S. into the world’s largest energy exporter. But President Donald Trump’s tariffs are prompting Canada to diversify and send more of its oil elsewhere.

Trump previously said he would increase from 25% to 50% tariffs for Canada after Ontario said it would raise electricity prices on U.S.

He also said that markets are going to swing up and down over time, dismissing concerns that led to a sell-off. He said the tariffs were needed in order to get American jobs back
