Udinese's 1-0 away win over Lecce on Friday was overshadowed by the controversy surrounding Lorenzo Lucca's winning penalty, which angered his teammates and coach.

Udinese became the latest Italian club involved in penalty controversy on Friday night, where a player was substituted straight after scoring his spot-kick. On Tuesday, Ademola Lookman was publicly criticised by manager Gian Piero Gasperini for missing a penalty in the Champions League knockout play-off second leg defeat to Club Brugge.

Several Udinese players were furious with their teammate, who grabbed the ball and stood over the penalty spot despite the fact that Florian Thauvian was on the pitch as the designated taker, and was wearing the captain’s armband, too.
