When Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” was released 30 years ago on Oct. 29, 1994, it began her ascent to the Queen of Christmas throne. Three decades later, the 55-year-old pop superstar is everybody’s favorite holiday diva.

Mariah Carey has one of the most successful Christmas songs of all time and enjoys an outrageous amount of royalties from its excessive number of plays each year. All I Want for Christmas Is You was released in 1994,

Billboard looked at every Christmas track released in the past 25 years, “ranked by total consumption (streams and sales),” and found the most popular to be “Santa Tell Me” by Ariana Grande, from 2014. It’s hard to say whether the track would be more or less canonical if Grande’s label agreed to her original diea for the music video.
