MTV EMAs, the CMT Music Awards, and several other awards shows were put on hold for 2025 as Paramount Global prepares for a major merger.

CMT is among the Paramount divisions hit with extensive layoffs in 2024. Meanwhile, cable networks like Nickelodeon and MTV are reportedly not priorities for Skydance. Amid the company’s competitors shedding or restructuring cable networks, it’s possible those brands will be dropped from the Paramount portfolio altogether.

Paramount has paused the CMT Music Awards, the MTV EMAs and more 2025 events, according to a memo from the company's Bruce Gillmer.

A memo obtained by Hollywood Reporter said with company merger Paramount would "reimagine and optimize [their] events slate going forward."

CMT Music Awards are officially on pause as Paramount Global continues its merger with Skydance Media. The MTV Europe Music Awards, MTV Millennial Awards and Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards Mexico are also affected,

"We look to reimagine and optimize our events slate going forward," reads a staff memo obtained by THR. "Our world-class events remain a key component of Paramount's music offering."
