ELKHART, Ind. (WNDU) - The Elkhart County Prosecutor asked the public to stop spreading rumors on social media about the shooting at a Martin’s in Elkhart Monday night. During a news conference to provide updated information about the shooting Vicki Becker said the misinformation was hurtful to the families of the victims.

The shootings occurred barely 11 years after a Jan. 15, 2014, shooting in which a 20-year-old gunman killed an employee and a shopper at the Martin's on East Bristol Street. The gunman in that case had forced a store manager to his knees and may have been about to kill him when Elkhart police arrived and killed the gunman.

Around 5:30 p.m., Becker said the investigation shows that Juan Sanchez, 54, had been inside Martin’s Super Market, 575 E. Jackson Blvd., Elkhart, for about 20 minutes, “observed other young females in the store.” Becker reiterated he was “watching” other young women.
