New Mexico police say the deaths of Gene Hackman and his wife appear suspicious enough to warrant a full investigation. The 911 caller says they found the couples' bodies in their Santa Fe home on Wednesday.

At the top of a Friday press conference, Santa Fe Film Commissioner Jennifer LaBar-Tapia opened with a tribute on what the late actor and wife meant not only to the film industry but to the city they called home.

Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa tested negative for carbon monoxide in the initial results of the toxicology report, leading officials to rule out the gas as a cause of Hackman and Arakawa’s death, Sheriff Adan Mendoza said in a press conference on Friday.
