JUBA (Reuters) - South Sudan's police imposed a nationwide curfew starting at 6 p.m. (1600 GMT) on Friday after a night of rioting in the capital over the alleged killing of South Sudanese people by the army and allied groups in neighbouring Sudan.

The number of Sudanese killed during the violent demonstrations sparked by anger over the killing of South Sudanese in Sudan’s Al-Jazirah State, has risen to 16, police said. The South Sudan National Police Service (SSNPS) Spokesperson, Col John Kassara Koang Nhial, confirmed the fatalities in four states.

Another 12 people have died in the past two days in South Sudan in attacks on citizens from northern neighbour Sudan, the security forces reported Saturday, despite an overnight curfew.

Following a violent night involving looting of Sudanese-owned businesses in Juba, South Sudan has enforced a dusk-to-dawn curfew. The violence arose from alleged killings of South Sudanese by Sudanese militia.
