Police in San Jose are investigating after several plainclothes officers were involved in a shootout involving multiple suspects late Monday night.

SAN JOSE — No one was injured after an unknown gunman opened fire on a group of police officers sitting in a parked car Monday night, according to the San Jose Police Department.

A man who says he was brutally mauled by a San Jose police K-9 is suing the city and the Police Department. Police have said the man was a stabbing suspect who did not come out of his apartment after they warned they'd be sending in a dog.

Police said officers were shot by suspects and returned gunshots on Monday, according to the San Jose Police Department. According to the department, plainclothes officers were “working an unrelated event” near Melbourne Boulevard and Mclaughlin Avenue.

The officers were working on an unrelated case Monday night when multiple people shot at them, police officials said. They returned fire, but no one was injured.

Two of five suspects who allegedly brandished firearms at victims inside a San Jose business during a July 2024 robbery have been arrested, the San Jose Police Department announced Tuesday. The armed robbery took place on July 12 at around 2:22 a.
