On point, in my opinion, the Boxster is a better sports car than the Z4, and I own a BMW M5, with a 911 Turbo on the way. But adding a tiptronic to the Boxster will sap its performance and your pocketbook to the tune of $3,400. Hardly a good "value" now, and a hindrence to future resale.

The Porsche uses the same boxer engine in the Boxster, Boxster s, Cayman, Cayman S, Carerra, and Carrera S. They just vary the displacement from 2.7 liters to 3.6 liters. Note that the 3.2 liter BMW in line six makes 330 hp in the M Roadster and M Coupe.

Porsche says the Boxster weighs 2877 lbs. There's no way your Boxster is quicker than the Magnum. The Z4 3.0 actually beat the 350Z by .1 sec 0-60 in Motor Trend's comparo. Overall they came in 3rd and 4th respectively to the Audi TT and Boxster S. Another thing you may want to consider is resale. 350Z roadster has one of the best resale values probably due to limited production.

In my area, both Porsches & BMW dealers are giving $2-2.5k off these cars. There are more S's on the lot than the v6's so I presume that they'll give more disount on the v8's plus there's more mark-up on the v8's. BMW will be a better bang for the buck bec every little thing w/ the Porsche is an option that you have to pay for.

I am in the market for a rather nice 2 seater car. Call it a "mid-life crisis". I have never owned a BMW, but i have liked them form a distance. This past weekend, after researching several Z4's, I found a 2006 that I wanted to purchase from a dealer. As I was in the car checking it out, I tried the soft-top roof.

Four cars I'd also really like to consider are due to be restyled in the next year: BMW 5-series awd, BMW 3-series awd, and Porsche Cayenne. Also, the new BMW X1 looks so much better than the X3 and I hear will be not be made in America but not planning to arrive here until late 2010. (Nothing anti-American. I just won't get burned twice.)
