Oct 21, 2012 · You don't want drip edge, you want gutter apron, the two are not the same. Drip edge somewhat resembles a T, while gutter apron resembles an inverted L. 1.5" minimum on the face, but it really depends on how far you intend to slope the gutter. The standard stuff we buy is 2" face, 3" beneath the roof. Minimum slope would be 1/4" per 10'.

Jul 9, 2024 · So even if metal drip edge was used and the deck part cut to follow the bend, any rain following the surface can't wet the roof deck. A kickaway bend would be good but may have to just bend and crimp the edge best you can. Asphalt shingle can be overhung by 4-5" which will droop in short time. Seal the edge over the deck.

Dec 21, 2014 · 2. Ice shield to edge of drip edge and 1/2" or so overhanging the rake and bend the shield. Same with tar paper courses upwards. Rake edging went over the shield and paper, cut even with eave edge. Shingles overhang the edging by 1". 3. Gutter should be under the drip edge. May be you can slip it under the edging, but you will need 3 people or so.

Sep 8, 2007 · You either have 4" or 6" drip edge, If you like the size you have take a small piece in when you go to purchase. Galv. will be the best bet unless you like the manhandled look. How old is the roof system? Why are you sure the old drip edge has to go? Can u pry old fascia away far enough to use a sawsall with ( Lenox metal blade on the nails?)

Dec 9, 2023 · Drip edge is made so it kicks bits of rain away from facia into gutter. Without the kick out edge, water will follow the face of the roofing and facia and it can go to early rots. But if your roof is not low slope and shingles are overhanging, less chance the surface tension of water will follow that route.

Oct 21, 2012 · If you added drip edge moulding (or just 1 X 2's all around the roof and just used 1-1/2 drip cap that would kick the shingles out enough that the water would drop in the gutters. I just run the lower drip edge first and keep it even with the ends.

Aug 21, 2023 · The drip edge should be tight to the fascia. and the gutter should be in between the two or a piece of flashing in between the drip and fascia coming down over the gutter. The shingles should overhang the drip edge too some, a lot of roofers don't thought and depending on you roof water can go up the roof and come down behind the drip edge.
