Floating Frogs | Science - AAAS
Apr 14, 1997 · When pigs fly? That could be sooner than you think. A group of researchers in the Netherlands and in England has made a frog levitate in a magnetic field. Although the feat might seem no more than a curiosity, researchers say that the floating amphibians may lead the way to a cheap alternative to space-based science experiments.
How did you get that frog to float? — Harvard Gazette
Apr 2, 2024 · The flying-frog talk included astonishing videos of levitating objects set to music, an overview of the physical forces that make levitation possible, and a smattering of equations.
NETHERLANDS: BRITISH & DUTCH SCIENTISTS MAKE FROG FLOAT IN ... - YouTube
Jul 21, 2015 · Scientists at the University of Nijmegen in Holland have managed to make a frog float six feet (approximately two metres) in the air - and they say the trick could easily be repeated with a...
Floating frog - Questions and Answers in MRI
Several videos on the internet show small biological objects apparently defying gravity by floating in the bores of research magnets. An example is shown below. The fields used are very large (on the order of 15T) and the objects are very small (tadpoles, insects, blades of grass).
Green puddle frog - Wikipedia
The green puddle frog, rough-skinned floating frog, pearly skin puddle frog, or pointed-tongued floating frog (Occidozyga lima) is a species of frog in the family Dicroglossidae. It is found in Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, and possibly Nepal.
Contrary to our intuition, apparently nonmagnetic substances can be levitated in a magnetic field and can stabilize free levitation of a permanent magnet. Most substances are weakly diamagnetic and the tiny forces associated with this property make the two types of levitation possible.
Magnetically Speaking, Frogs Float - WIRED
May 6, 1997 · The animals - a small frog, grasshoppers, and fish - floated in mid-air when placed in a strong magnetic field of 16 Tesla. By comparison, an audio speaker's magnetic field is between .001 and...
Frog defies gravity - New Scientist
Apr 12, 1997 · USING a giant magnetic field, scientists at the University of Nottingham and the University of Nijmegen in the Netherlands have made a frog float in mid-air. The levitation trick works because...
96-126 (Levitation) - Brown University
Last April, researchers in the Netherlands reported use of a magnetic field to levitate a frog, grasshoppers, fish and plants. The Brown scientists created the magnetic field inside a large bagel-shaped solenoid - a cylindrical coil of tightly wound insulated wire through which a powerful electric current flows.
