5e doesn't contain any distinction between the two. (Note: the pike, which you didn't ask about, is also identical to the glaive and halberd in its combat stats. The pike, however, does not benefit from the first bullet-point of Polearm Master, and so is strictly inferior--mechanically speaking--to either of the glaive or halberd.)

Aug 29, 2021 · Specifically for glaive/halberd, a barbarian at tiers 1 and 2 while a paladin at tier 3 are ideal. The barbarians get extra damage on all hits if they are raging and can use reach reckless attack then move back utilising their great movement speed. Paladins can get more smites per turn and at level 11 they get an extra d8 on all hits.
