Mariah Carey is an American singer, actress, and television personality. She is the daughter of Patricia (Hickey), an opera singer and vocal coach, and Alfred Roy Carey, an aeronautical engineer. Mariah’s paternal grandfather was a Cuban immigrant, with African-Cuban ancestry (he was almost certainly not from Venezuela, as some sources state).

Mariah Carey was born March 27, 1970, her father is Alfred Roy Carey who has Afro – American and African – Venezuelan descent. Even, Mariah Carey still has family in Venezuela today. Many people assume that the singer has Latina descent, but it is not true. Her mother Patricia Carey is of Irish American ancestry.

Carey is the daughter of a white opera singer mother and a Black engineer father, a couple who parted ways when she was just 3 years old, and Carey was raised in an all-white neighborhood. She remembers being considered not-white enough to fit in with those around her, “but not Black enough to scare people into not saying stuff around me.”
