A schematic is a visual representation of a circuit. As such, its purpose is to communicate a circuit to someone else. A schematic in a special computer program for that purpose is also a machine-readable description of the circuit. This use is easy to judge in absolute terms.

A good schematic will show component names and values, and provide labels for sections or components to help communicate the intended purpose. Note how connections on wires (or "nets") are shown using dots and non-connections are shown without a dot.

Above the Terminal Blocks are the circles, label TB1:9 through TB1:14 on the right. Which stands for Terminal Block (Strip) 1 - Terminal 9 through Terminal 14.

BLK and WHT wires connect to pins K and M on the 12-pin Amphenol adapter (not all pins are used) on the other end of the cord, but BRN (or ground) stops at the dashed line that appears to make a circle around the other wires.

It could mean a test point, but most likely not since there is no component designator. A bunch of test points on the board are pretty useless unless labeled, so I don't think that's it. Most likely whoever created that schematic was used to a different schematic program and felt compelled to put Xs there to indicate not connected.

I understand what the labels SI, CLK, AO and Vdd mean but I'm totally lost when it comes to what the J1, J2 & J3 mean. Here is a picture with the J labeled: Can anyone here shine some light on this?
