Jul 14, 2015 · The state police here in VA went from the red to blue "gumball" light during the early or mid-1980s and they had two small flashing red lights in the grill until 1991 or so. I know they had gone to blue when I was stationed here with the Army. Local PDs had all blue or red AND blue - and many have switched back and forth over the years.
