One, if not the most well known songs of World War II was “Lili Marleen”. Originally written as a poem in 1915 by Hans Lieb. The poem was set to music in 1937 and first sung in 1939 by Lale Andersen. “Lili Marleen” was extremely popular with German, American, British, and even Soviet troops were known to have a liking for the song.
